Honoring Our Grandmother’s Legacy: Bringing Clean Water to Pakistan

by | Feb 25, 2023 | Blogs & News, Family, Solutions

Our grandmother was a remarkable woman who inspired our entire family with her selflessness and generosity. Despite facing her own struggles in life, she always found a way to help others. She was known for sending money back home to relatives and others who could not provide for themselves and supporting causes like the water project, schools for girls, and helping women learn sewing skills.

She came from a small town in India and was blessed to be one of nine siblings, with one older brother and sister, and six younger siblings, two sisters and four brothers. Her oldest brother, Syed Abdullah, took her in and they all lived in a single three-story house. Our grandmother was a widow for over 72 years and raised two children on her own.

In her memory, my brother and I have created a fundraiser to help bring clean water to places in Pakistan that desperately need it. We were inspired by our grandmother’s legacy and her commitment to helping others, and we wanted to continue her work by making a difference in the world.

Pakistan is home to over 21 million people who lack access to clean water. This is a basic human right that many of us take for granted, but for those who don’t have access to it, it can mean the difference between life and death. Contaminated water can cause diseases like cholera, typhoid, and dysentery, and can have a devastating impact on communities.

We want to make a difference in the lives of those who don’t have access to basic necessities like clean water. With your help, we can provide access to clean and safe water, and help prevent the spread of waterborne diseases. Every donation counts, no matter how small.

Our grandmother’s story is a reminder that we all have the power to make a positive impact on the world, no matter our circumstances. She lived a life of service, and we are inspired by her example to do the same. By working together, we can honor her legacy and create a better future for those in need.

Access to clean water is a global issue, and it affects millions of people around the world. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), nearly 2.2 billion people lack access to safe drinking water, and more than 4.2 billion people lack access to safely managed sanitation services.

The situation is particularly dire in developing countries like Pakistan, where lack of access to clean water and sanitation is a major challenge. According to UNICEF, 40 million people in Pakistan lack access to safe drinking water, and over 90 million lack access to basic sanitation.

The lack of access to clean water has a devastating impact on communities, particularly on women and children. Women and girls often bear the burden of collecting water, which can take up to six hours a day in some cases. This means they have less time to go to school or work, and are at greater risk of violence and exploitation while collecting water.

Children are also affected by the lack of access to clean water, as they are more vulnerable to waterborne diseases. Diarrhea is a leading cause of death among children under five in developing countries, and it is often caused by drinking contaminated water.

The situation in Pakistan is compounded by a number of factors, including rapid population growth, urbanization, and climate change. The country’s water resources are also under stress due to over-extraction, pollution, and mismanagement.

To address this crisis, we need to work together and find sustainable solutions to provide access to clean and safe water. This is where our fundraiser comes in. We are working with a local organization in Pakistan to implement a water filtration system in areas that lack access to clean water. This will help provide a long-term solution to the problem of contaminated water and improve the health and well-being of communities in need.

Our fundraiser is an opportunity for individuals to make a difference and contribute to a cause that will have a lasting impact on the lives of others. We are asking people to donate whatever they can to help us reach our goal and bring clean water to those who need it most.

The power of small donations should not be underestimated. Even a small contribution can make a big difference in the lives of those who lack access to clean water. For example, just $30 can provide clean water to one person for a year.

We believe that everyone has the power to make a positive impact on the world, and we are inspired by our grandmother’s legacy to do our part. We hope that others will join us in this important work and help make a difference in the lives of those who are struggling.

In addition to donating to our fundraiser, there are other ways to support the cause of providing access to clean water. For example, you can advocate for policies that promote sustainable water management and support organizations working to provide clean water and sanitation to communities in need.

You can also make changes in your own life to reduce your water consumption and minimize your impact on the environment. For example, you can fix leaks, take shorter showers, and use water-efficient appliances and fixtures.

Access to clean water is a fundamental human right, and it is our responsibility as global citizens to work towards ensuring that everyone has access to this basic necessity. By coming together and taking action, we can create a better future for ourselves and for generations to come.

In conclusion, our grandmother’s legacy is a reminder of the power of service and the impact that one person can have on the world. By honoring her memory and continuing her work, we hope to make a positive impact on the lives of those who are struggling. We invite you to join us in this important work and contribute to our fundraiser to bring clean water to Pakistan. Together, we can make a difference and create a brighter future for all.
